Notes on Congress actions:

•  Prop. 13 by the second International Mycological Congress (IMC²)
    (Art. 11A Prop. A), was accepted as amended (Greuter) by the insertion
    of  “for certain”  before  “fossil plants”.

•  Prop. 29 by the second International Mycological Congress (IMC²)
    (Rec. 9B Prop. A) was accepted as amended (Walker, Demoulin, Gams,
    Veldkamp) to read:

     “Whenever practical in addition to the non-living holotype, a living
       culture prepared from the holotype specimen before preservation of
       newly proposed fungus or algal taxa should be deposited with a
       reputable culture collection.”

•  Prop. 38 by Meikle (Art. 32 Prop. A) was accepted as amended (Greuter)
    to maintain the existing Art. 32.3, but with deletion of the last ten words.

•  Prop. 55 by Silva (Art. 17 Prop. A) was accepted as amended by deletion
    of the last sentence (Silva) and addition in line 3 (Greuter), after the word
    “family”, of:  “based on a generic name”.

•  Prop. 70 by Filgueiras (Art. 21 Prop. A) and Prop. 107 by the Special
    Committee on Autonyms (Art. 21 Prop. C) were accepted as to intent,
    the choice of wording being left with the Editorial Committee.

•  Prop. 81 by the Committee for Spermatophyta (Art. 69 Prop. B) was
    accepted: the procedure in the present footnote to Art. 69, inserted by
    the Editorial Committee, is officially sanctioned.

•  Prop. 85 by the Committee for Spermatophyta (Art. 6 Prop. A) was
    accepted as amended (Greuter) to add  “according to this Code”  after 
    “a name which ...”.

•  Prop. 87 by the Special Committee on Autonyms (Art. 19 Prop. C) as
    such was rejected, but a new proposal from the floor (Demoulin and Korf)
    was accepted, consisting of Prop. 87 with an additional sentence:

     “An autonym will automatically acquire priority over the name of
       equivalent rank which has established it.”

•  Prop. 117 by Storch (Art. 13 Prop. D) was rejected and referred to the
    Committee for Fossil Plants.

•  Prop. 154 by Brummitt (Art. 63 Prop. B) and Prop. 157 by Greuter & al.
    (Art. 63 Prop. C) were both accepted as to intent, the choice of wording
    being left with the Editorial Committee.

•  Prop. 205 by Greuter & McNeill (Art. 14 Prop. D) was accepted as amended
    by a proposal from the floor (Nicolson) to add a sentence to Art. 14.1:

     “Conservation of specific names is restricted to names of species of major
       economic importance.”

•  The proposal [sn-2] by the Committee for Fungi and Lichens) offering an
    alternate text to Prop. 32 (Art. 13 Prop. C) was accepted in the form of a
    recommendation after Art. 46, that, in the citation of sanctioned names, a
    colon (“ : ”) should be placed between the orginating and the adopting
    authors’ names.

•  The proposal [sn-3] by Norris & Townsend to add a new Rec. 39A was
    accepted as amended, replacing  “an actual specimen”  by “actual
    specimens”  (Fosberg), followed not by  “preferably the holotype”,  but
    by  “preferably including the holotype” (Yeo), and on the understanding
    that it should apply only to the algae.

•  The proposal [sn-5] by Dahlgren & Friis, to rephrase Rec. 29A, was dealt
    with in two steps: the first proposed paragraph (“29A.1”) was rejected,
    the second (“29A.2”) was accepted as amended (Hnatiuk), by deletion of
    the words  “as for example ... typewriter”.

•  The proposal [sn-6] by Eichler, to add a new note to Art. 29, was rejected
    and referred to the Editorial Committee after an amendment to delete the
    last sentence (Greuter) had been withdrawn.

 
Motions from the floor, that were accepted:

•  A proposal from the Committee for Fungi and Lichens (presented by Korf): 
      “Typification of such names is based on the protologue of the adopting
       author” 
    (this in the context of Art. 13, and the newly-accepted concept of
    sanctioned names).

•  by Brummitt, Meikle & McNeill, the portion after the semicolon in
    Art. 8.1 to read:

      “it may also be superseded if it can be shown that it is in serious conflict
       with the protologue and another element is available which is not in
       conflict with that, or that it was made arbitrarily.”

•  by Nicolson, to add at the end of Art. 14.3:

      “except for conserved family names (Appendix II) which are to be
       conserved over unlisted names.”

•  by Voss, to add at the end of the first sentence of Art. 14.9:

      “... and changes. Entries of conserved names cannot be deleted.”

•  by Meikle, to add a new paragraph:

      “41.2 In order to be validly published, a name of a family must be
       accompanied (a) by a description or diagnosis of the family, or (b) by a
       reference (direct or indirect) to a previously and effectively published
       description or diagnosis of a taxon in the rank of family, subfamily, tribe
       or subtribe.”

•  by Faegri (a “lifeboat motion”):

      “In case there shall not be another International Botanical Congress, the
       authority over the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature must be
       transferred to the International Union of Biological Sciences through its
       Division of Botany, or an organization at that time corresponding to it.
       The general committee is empowered to define the machinery to achieve
