Committees
Special committees (to report to the XIII IBC) to be set up:
Special Committee on Romanization of Authors Names from
Non-Roman Scripts (Art. 46).
Special Committee on Generic Typification,
to deal with the problems
of Art. 10 referred by the Seattle Congress.

on the matter of nomina specifica conservanda et rejicienda, per
Prop. 112 by Brummitt & Meikle
(Art. 14 Prop. E).
The proposals on Articles 59 and 72
were referred for further study to
the Committee for Fungi and the special IMA Committee.
Notes
•
Prop. 31 by Nicolson (Rec. 73C Prop. A)
was accepted as amended, to
retain
-anus after names ending in
-er (not
-ianus as proposed).
A
second amendment (Demoulin)
was rejected,
to add or possess a well
known latinized form (old European given names).
•
Prop. 71 by Yeo (Art. 28 Prop. A)
was accepted as amended (Fosberg),
to add:
This
does not prevent the use of ordinary botanical names for such
taxa if convenient or desired.
•
Prop. 77c by the Special Committee for Articles 69, 70, 71
(Art. 69
Prop. A)
was dealt with in three steps:
-
the
rewording was accepted,
-
the creation of a list was accepted,
-
the proposed Note was withdrawn.
•
Prop. 108 by Brummitt, Chater & Greuter
(Art. 35 - Prop. B)
was
accepted as amended (Cronquist) to use date of 1 Jan. 1890 instead
of 1900.
An amendment (Nicolson) to also automatically assign
the rank of section was rejected.
•
Prop. 118 by Jansonius (Art. 3 Prop. C)
was referred to the
Committee for Fossil Plants who consulted and added
a supplement
to their report,
which was accepted.
Art. 3 Note 1 to be reworded:
Note 1.
Since the names of species,
and consequently of many
higher taxa,
of fossil plants are
usually based on fragmentary
specimens, and since the connection between these specimens
can only rarely be proved,
organ-genera (organo-genera) and
form-genera
(forma-genera) are distinguished as taxa within
which species may be recognized and given names according
to the Code.
An organ-genus is a genus assignable to a family.
A form-genus
may be unassignable to a family,
but may be referable to a
taxon of higher rank (see Art. 59).
Form-genera are artificial
in varying degree.
Note 1.
Since the names of species,
and consequently of many
higher taxa, of fossil plants are based on fragmentary specimens,
and since the connection between these specimens
can only rarely
be proved, form-genera are distinguished as taxa
within which
species may be recognized and given names according to the Code.
A
form-genus may be unassignable to a family,
but may be
referable to a taxon of higher rank (see (see Art. 59).
[Examples to be in a single list with no reference
to form- and organ-
genera.] Thus,
Prop. 152 was rendered moot.
Unpublished proposals
A proposal by Yeo, overlooked in publication,
to make explicit when a
name is illegitimate,
was rejected and referred to the Editorial Committee.
A second unpublished proposal by Yeo,
to redefine combination, was
rejected.
A third unpublished proposal by Yeo, to reword Art. 8, was rejected.
Motions from the floor
•
by Zabinkova & Kaden, accepted,
to refer consistently to
termination
rather than suffix or ending
in Art. 16,
18,
19, etc.).
•
by Botschantzev, rejected, to add a footnote to Art. 46.
But
a Special
committee (to report to the XIII IBC) to be set up, on transliteration of
authors names from non-Latin alphabets.
