IAPT - International Association for Plant Taxonomy
IAPT is dedicated to organismal biodiversity the extent, recognition, organisation, evolution, and naming of plants and fungi, both living and fossil. To those wishing to be at the forefront of these issues, membership in IAPT will be rewarding. The IAPT maintains the International Bureau for Plant Taxonomy and Nomenclature, and engages in a wide range of activities consistent with its focus.
Information on Membership and Application
The IAPT was founded in 1950 to carry out projects of interest and concern to
systematic botanists which require or profit from international cooperation.
By 2012, for example, no less than 154 volumes of the series Regnum Vegetabile
had been published, including such well-known titles as the numerous editions
of the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (now International Code of
Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants), the Index Nominum Genericorum,
Taxonomic Literature (two editions), and Index Herbariorum (pt. 1 and 2). In
addition, six issues of the journal TAXON are published each year,
the annual volume presently consisting of 1800 pages.
IAPT is responsible for the establishment and functioning of inter-Congress
nomenclature committees and for the organization and execution of the nomenclature
sessions at each International Botanical Congress.
In addition to TAXON and other obvious benefits of membership, current volumes of the
Regnum Vegetabile
series are available to members at reduced prices. Our web page lists those volumes still in print.
Membership may be obtained by submitting a printout of the appropriate application form
(Student members,
all other members)
and sent to IAPT Managing office (see address below), with a cheque for the appropriate
amount made payable to the IAPT. It is requested that cheque payments be made in EUR or
U.S. dollars (in latter case drawn on a U.S. bank). However, facilities are provided to
pay by credit card or to an account in Geneva.
